A little artwork in process

I had fun working on this painting. A classic rotary dial phone! Who grew up with one of these? I love the feel of these phones – the weight of the handset, the twirling of the cord, the sound and feel of the dialing.

I definitely was happy when we got a push button phone – it seemed so advanced! It was much easier to make a call that would not ruin newly manicured nails!

For me, this is how it typically starts when doing a still life. I like to make sure that the background color feels right. This is a classic case of using the complimentary color (red and green). It is also the time when I step back and make sure that I like the positioning/composition of the objects. I will add more details as I go!

a fun day of art and music in Livermore!

I got over to the studio this morning and did some more detail work on this painting. It is not finished, but I am happy with the progress so far. Gum balls are tricky! They have very subtle color changes to help them look more like a sphere shape. I’ll keep working on them!

We saw the “Living Large” exhibit at the Bankhead in Livermore, CA. It was a nice show and it was fun to run into some wonderful (and talented) artists. It’s always fun to hear the jazz offerings of Matt Finders and friends. I can listen to them all day!

The Living Large show runs through March 2nd – if you are in the area, check it out! It inspired me to work bigger!

Work in progress

I am in the homestretch on this banner! Overall, I am happy with its progress. The light blue button was not working for me so I decided to work on that one today. I thought that I was adding an iridescent white to the party, but I actually added Interference Green. I am so pleased with this result. Yay, a happy mistake – my favorite! I have to finish up the neon orange and teal blue buttons and then decide if I need to add one more small one in the bottom left side (maybe a gray/silver colored one?).

I am painting one of the banners that will be auctioned off at the Livermore ArtWalk. Each color of the rainbow will be represented plus the addition of a neon orange color. I am on an orange kick, so I will see how that looks. This is the largest canvas that I’ve ever worked on. It’s fun so far!

Hope everyone is having a joyful Sunday!
