I am enjoying my Procreate art time. It is a much needed break from my work.
Been on the giving or receiving end of this cat greeting?
I am still doing the Bardot Brush – Making Art Everyday (MAE) challenge. I have been doing all of the prompts so far! I really want to learn more about how to use Procreate and this is the way to do it (for me). I am also excited about getting a subscription to SkillShare – I hope that I do not go down rabbit holes and start taking classes on too many topics!! Work and the Senate hearings are taking up much of my space right now.
I love the Barefoot Contessa – Ina Garten – kitchen god! Today’s prompt was “favorite dinner” and I was a bit stumped – I have so many favorites! We love to cook and eat at my home and I would have to say, hands down – Ina’s recipes are in heavy rotation! Some of my favorites – Chicken Piccata (my birthday request for many years now), Asian Salmon (the combo of Dijon mustard, garlic, soy sauce and Olive Oil is De-Vine!!), sagaponack corn pudding and The Italian Wedding soup are some that quickly come to mind.
I would love to attend one of her parties! We try to model that spirit when we have guests over (back in the day). Simple pleasures that convey love and appreciation.
Meal prompt today was “sushi” – another one of my favorite meals. I miss going to a restaurant and having a sushi meal. We’ve been doing take out, but it is not really the same experience. I do love rolls, especially when they involve avocado. But, good old nigiri is heaven on a plate.
To me, pizza is the perfect meal. I am super picky about my pizza – it must be NY, simple, folded. Use the crusts to dip up the oil drippings. Never use a fork to eat this, definitely, no pineapple on it! I miss my pizzeria in Long Island (Marios).
I have such memories of these cupcakes! I remember liking the top and inside, but not really caring for the cake part much! It was such a special treat to get these at our candy store. I prefer Ding Dongs, Yodels and Devil Dogs, but the cupcake had the best look!
All artwork done in Procreate – exploring fruits and veggies.
I was going to skip a few daily prompts due to my disgust about what was happening to this Country. Instead, I found the needed escape in doing art. I also did some phone calling and letter writing to express my feelings and call for action. I also unfriended several people on facebook, people I know they voted for a shallow racist. I can no longer feel comfortable sharing my life with them. They live in an alternate reality that I want no part of. They are a big part of the problem.
I normally want to keep my politics out of my art, but I find that is a white privilege action (to compartmentalize with ease). Art and politics always mix. At times it is a more subtle mix like how free and supportive government is when it comes to arts. We may not fully appreciate that, because we have many freedoms here in the US. Yet in other parts of the world, art is heavily monitored. In history, western art has always been dominated by white male artists. Galleries and museums tend to value male and known artists. Those artists tend to fill the space, those works are what we see and learn is of value. Politics is always intertwined in everything and every aspect of our lives.
What happened in our Capitol was unfortunately predictable, layered with our white supremacy legacy. It was ugly. It is uggy. Government supporting the lies, a foolish population believing those lies, a willingness to take action on those lies. This, my friends, is the recipe for facism.
I will keep hope. That maybe, just maybe, people are seeing the bigger picture and have a willingness to address the systemic issues in our county,
