Working on my mini canvases

File_001 (18)

I spent a few hours in the studio this weekend working on these ArtAments. The left one is my tribute to Foothill Falcons Marching Band. The center one is a bit of nostalgia for those old bulb stringed lights. The right one is another snowman wearing their Marching Don’s spirit ware. I like his carefree expression. What’s got you feeling happy or joyous these days?

I am painting one of the banners that will be auctioned off at the Livermore ArtWalk. Each color of the rainbow will be represented plus the addition of a neon orange color. I am on an orange kick, so I will see how that looks. This is the largest canvas that I’ve ever worked on. It’s fun so far!

Hope everyone is having a joyful Sunday!

Fig Love

File_000 (25)

I saw figs in Trader Joe’s this weekend and just had to get them. Luckily, I am the only one in my home who loves this kick ass fruit. (all for me!) As I painted them, I was struck by the many subtle colors and tones in there. I’ll keep doing research on these yummy subjects – ah, the sacrifices of an artist!

Ligature

Did a quick painting for day 17 of the #30paintingsin30days challenge. “Ligature” is a 8×8 acrylic painting on wood panel. The ligature is an important part of the clarinet – it holds the reed in place on the mouthpiece.

I remember declaring to my painting teacher that I will not paint a reflective surface because I just did not want to deal with the thousands of subtle colors. My teacher was wise and encouraged me to do just that. Face the things that are a challenge – purposely embrace it – stick with it. Great life lessons.

Day 15 (which happens to be my anniversary) of the #30paintingsin30days challenge. Another examination of the clarinet. I worked off a photo found here – I loved the yellow background and the orientation to the left. From looking at my own instrument, I see some areas that I might switch around.

The clarinet has always been my baby. I just didn’t know that for a while.” –  Anat Cohen

Record Player

This is day 12 and getting to the halfway point of the #30paintingsin30days challenge. This is a watercolor painting. I got the Miles Davis album for Christmas/Hanukkah and just adore listing to it. I have to keep remembering to take action when the record ends on a side (otherwise, I face nasty looks and lectures on record needles from Derek). I’m so out of practice listening to actual vinyl!

We are setting up our turntable  in our family room. I love the pops and the feeling of satisfaction of lining the needle up just right! Sure wish I was at home right now, listening to “Kind of Blue,” and snuggling with the kitties.
