The water rises

I’ve been unable to get the time to do art this past couple of weeks. The train wreck that is currently going on in our country has me feeling anxious and depressed. It has left me depleted.

I  initially set out to the studio today to throw away some paintings that were not working for me. I felt that I should just get rid of things that are not pleasing to me. Why surround myself with things I do not like? I thought that there’s enough going on in the world (our country) zapping my energy – I don’t need to have that in my art space.

At the last moment, I thought about adding some more paint to cover some of the spots that I did not like. Like magic, I found myself reconnecting and enjoying the piece. It needed to be reworked! I saw a female figure emerging from her water world.

There’s a life lesson here, I know. Sometimes, it is best to get rid of the depleting items in your life. They just take up space and do not serve a purpose. Other times, things can be improved and you can see its possibilities.

Cuprum

Day 4 of #30paintingsin30days – Another experiment in the use of the pour paint medium. This time, I used my gloved hand to mix things around. I like having more interaction with my painting surface.

The title of this piece is “Cuprum”  – It is the Latin from which copper gets its elemental symbol “Cu”

file_000-21Day 3 of the #30paintingsin30days challenge. I had some fun working with the poured paint medium and again played with the Mets colors. My aim was to go wild and let go!

I took the day off from work today and spent the morning at the studio. I am happy that the heater is working (somewhat); the last few times I went in, it was pretty cold and hard to do art. I love having a space so close to Casse-Croute Bakery. The warm croissant and coffee was the perfect answer to the cold temp.

Lately, I have been experimenting with the poured paint medium. I am not quite sure if I am liking this process or not. There’s a good deal of giving up control and the mess is a bit more then I am comfortable with (and I like to be messy).

For this experiment, I placed the pouring medium directly on the wood block that I first painted and then added my paint into the medium. I tried to not move the board – I just wanted to see what gravity did to the paint colors. I am not sure what it will look like when it dries (another downside to this process, IMHO). I like more instant gratification!

Clarinet Bell

In addition to painting, I play clarinet. I just love its range of sound – from melancholy to plain goofy. This piece was donated to a local middle school for an upcoming music department fundraiser. Hope it helps bring some funds to the school.
